Economy Class Ego Trip is available now.

J.J. and the Real Jerks is a band I have become familiar with because of Radio Free Bakersfield. And every time Whorehay plays this band, it catches my attention. Why? First, because J.J. and the Real Jerks is a great name for a band. Beyond that, it catches my attention because it is just balls-to-the-wall rock and roll. This band doesn’t really do anything fancy. It just plays loud and fast…you know, like rock and roll should be.

Probably my favorite song on the EP is the title track. The lyrics in this song are brilliant. “I’m on my way. Goin’ on an economy-class ego trip. Got more baggage than a cargo ship” as well as “Right now, I’m the hottest thing in my head.” (If you only knew how southern California residents that describes.) I told you the lyrics are brilliant.

Another highlight of the EP is the last track “Finer Things,” which features some great greasy rock and roll saxophone. I don’t know about you, but greasy rock and roll saxophone will never go out of style with me.

Economy Class Ego Trip is a solid EP. The only thing I don’t like about it is that it’s only five songs. The EP is available on limited-edition transparent blue-swirl wax from Rankoutsider Records.
